How to Make Magical Beeswax Candles at Home with a Candle Making Kit

For years, I've wanted to make beeswax candles with wax from our beehives, but I just never got around to it. This year I decided to finally tackle this project and make some candles for the fall and winter seasons using a handy candle making kit. A great option is a candle making kit, which provides paraffin and soy wax, glass mason jars, and wood wicks - all the key materials you need to get started.

The three main parts of the candle are the container, the wick, and the wax, and all three of these work together to determine how the candle burns. A wider container will need a bigger wick and thus will have a bigger flame to prevent tunneling while a narrower container will need a smaller wick and thus a smaller flame to prevent the wick from mushrooming and not burning as cleanly. Cloves are often used to banish and ward against hostile or negative forces. They're often used in magic to drive off unwanted spirits and entities, and used for protection and clearing. Their warding properties are handy in spell breaking, encountering, and spell work concerned with release. Cloves also promote and draw love and friendship, wealth, luck, and emotional balance.

Some of the essential oils you could add to your candles include pine or peppermint oil, depending on the scent profile that you want. Myrrh and frankincense oil are also traditional scents of the Yuletide season. I love to add the spicy scents of cinnamon and clove oil, but be aware that these oils can irritate the skin.

Spell candles are used in witchcraft, voodoo, hoodoo, and all kinds of magic, ritual, and spellcraft. You can add oils, herbs, crystals, colors, or symbols as you craft your candles to align with your magical goals. Most importantly, as you create your candle, infuse it with your intention. If your traditions call for it, you may wish to bless your candle, chant or speak words while creating it, invoke a deity, or pray over it. Once the wax is completely melted, it's time to add the ingredients you want inside your candle. Make sure to turn the heat off before adding anything to the wax. I'm adding dried mango leaves to the wax. Mango trees are a symbol of love and happiness. The mango is important in many religions, including Buddhism and Hinduism. They bring good luck and success and symbolize life.

I'm also adding lemon peel. These are easy to make at home. Just dry strips of lemon peel slowly in the oven until they harden. Lemon magic is uplifting and happy. It represents the sun's energy. I'm adding lemon to the spell candle for its joyful and creative properties. Lemon can dispel feelings of depression.

A candle created magically in your sacred space and with great intention can bring extra power and purpose to your magic. There are many ways to use your spell candle. It's perfect for any spell work relating to joy and creativity. Light it intentionally to bring joy to your space or to bring a boost of creativity when you're creating art, crafting, cooking, writing, or any other creative pursuit. Focus energy toward visualizing your goal happening as you light your candle and as it burns.
