WHAT IS IT
Star sand is a biogenic “sand” made of the star-shaped exoskeletons of tiny, single-celled sea creatures belonging to the Foraminifera group. This type of sand can only be found on a few beaches in the world. This sample is from Hatoma Island in Okinawa, Japan where students collect, clean, and sort the sand to raise money for their school [so thanks for supporting them!]. This sample consists of about 7mL of these skeletons.
