Q: I subscribed to this service in October. Is there anyway to see when a shipment was sent out? It does not appear to be reflected on Cratejoy in my subscription information. Asked by Linda M., November 2020
Tracking numbers are sent automatically via email. Sometimes they do end up in a junk folder. Due to the shipping software we use, international orders may not be automatically linked, but we do try to always update them manually. Feel free to email us directly with questions on a specific order.
Q: Why is the shipping so high? I keep adding this to my cart only to be turned off by the shipping charges. Is there any solution to this?Asked by Niharika S., January 2021
Hello! Thank you for your interest in Bibliophilic Excursions. Shipping for each product is calculated based on the average weight of the product and the destination zip code. We're based in the San Francisco Bay Area so, depending on your location, shipping can be quite expensive. We completely understand this. As we grow, we've been working on negotiating better shipping rates to be passed down to our customers. Though the pandemic has certainly not helped our case much, we're still committed to working on this, along with other developments that we hope to roll out soon. As a very small business run completely by just two sisters, we are not in the position to eat the cost of shipping. While some companies may just include...
Q: Whoever did the video review is a cultural moron. She didn’t know what a zen garden was nor what Yakuza meant. Made me question the quality of the subscription if using such a bimbo dork to showcase!Asked by Livia C., January 2021
While there isn’t a question in this post, we here at Bibliophilic Excursions would like to take this opportunity to affirm our belief in compassionate understanding, respect and tolerance for all. We actually take a bit of pride in being not for everyone and we don’t advocate shaming anyone simply for not understanding. Thanks for stopping by!
Q: Is there a way to do a bulk order? Say 22 boxes? Thanks, LaraAsked by Lara L., November 2020
Hello! Thank you so much for your interest in our product! We love bulk orders. We can curate a custom box for your group, design a holiday special or we can arrange a bulk order for one of our monthly boxes. We are happy to pass down our wholesale savings to our customers. I will follow-up via email!
I got my first box of the Fiction Journey, and I love it. The theme is Australia, and all of the items are really cool. I especially like the boomerang! The book looks interesting, and I'm looking forward to reading it.
My mothers' two favorite hobbies are traveling and reading a book. Since her Parkinson's diagnosis she can't do much of the former. I bought this for her for Christmas and she was head over heels in love. The theme was Peru. She adored the knick knacks that came with it. I doubt she will eat the bag of quinoa but she turned right around, warmed the Peruvian hot chocolate and shared it with her grandkids. She loved that the books were individually wrapped and dove right into Turn Right at Machu Picchu. This is such a well thought out and cultivated box. I know it seems a bit expensive but it was worth every penny, especially for someone like my mom who misses her traveling days. She liked the box so much I offered her a subscription.
Hi There! This is so heartwarming for us to hear! We started this business as much more of a passion project. We wanted to connect great people with great books by bringing back the magic and ambiance of reading a physical book over the impersonal experience e-readers can sometimes create. We're so happy to hear that your mom enjoyed the box and shared it with the whole family! How amazingly lovely! Thank you for sharing!
I received the Iceland box as my first one - and it's fantastic! This box showed thoughtful, excellent curation. I've been introduced to a Nobel Prize-winning fiction writer (Halldor Laxness) whom I didn't know before and also enjoyed my non-fiction selection about Icelandic folk tales. The beauty item was a moss salt scrub - very nice and effective. I was thrilled with the jewelry - a rune necklace and a key chain with a troll figure made from lava stone. Also, a lovely book mark with lava stone and a metal Thor figurine. To wrap it all up, interesting and tasty small batch chocolates from Omnom. I do feel the shipping was high, but the overall box was great and I'm looking forward to the next one.
2020 was supposed to be a fabulous year for travel: a family cruise to the Caribbean, a trip to Ireland to celebrate my son’s graduation, a road trip to Glacier Park and Yellowstone, and Thanksgiving in Hawaii. Tragically, Covid happened and everything was put on hold. My yearning for travel and my love of reading led me to Bibliophilic Excursions. I joined the Signature Journey and have so far received five terrific boxes. Every time I open the box and unwrap the carefully packaged items, I am transported to another country. I receive one non-fiction and one fiction book set in the destination country of the month. Every book is a literary treasure which satisfies my hunger for words. The gifts that come in every book box are numerous and awesome and completely themed for each specific country. I have a hand-woven trivet from Guatemala that scents my kitchen with the lovely aroma of cinnamon, vibrantly-colored straw baskets and ornaments from Ghana, a delicate glass Egyptian perfume bottle and a hand-painted papyrus scroll, shortbread and tea, a 100% woolen scarf and warm snuggle socks from Ireland, Alpaca gloves, melting chocolate for cocoa, and a pan pipe from Peru...all of these items made in their respective countries and all of the high quality that you see in the market place. The colors, the textures, and the aromas that these items carry, all serve to make your journey complete. At a time when travel is no longer safe, the...
I received my first box today and I LOVE it. The items are perfect and appear to have been put together with care and thought. I look forward to my next box. Thank you!
I ordered this for my mom for Christmas as she loves to read but hasn't been able to get to the library and with covid of course, travel is not possible. Despite the holiday mail craziness, it arrived within a week of ordering, and my mom absolutely loved the box.
So fantastic! I found this subscription probably 2 years ago and I've been waiting until I could fit this into my budget. You can imagine how I excited I was to finally order this and it was totally worth the wait! The items are high-end, really well thought out, and not just little trinkets that you'll have no use for. The books are great too- they're highly rated, not just random titles, nor from unknown authors. I can't wait to read them, and I may just become hooked on a whole new genre :D I signed up for the quarterly subscription but wish I had done monthly because I don't want to wait that long now. if you need a mental trip and some culture, you need this box!
Hello! Thanks for stopping by to review our box! We're so happy to hear that it was worth the wait. If you haven't already, please feel free to email us directly about changing up your subscription if you're interested. We try to be as flexible as possible in such circumstances.
Was pleasantly surprised with the variety of items along with books. The extra items were practical things I will definitely use especially this cold winter. The scarf and wool socks are of great quality and snacks are delicious. I normally don’t read non-fiction books but thought this adventure box would get me out of my comfort reading zone. I’m looking forward to learning more things from around the world through these books. Overall a great box to buy, will recommend it to other book lovers. Thank you for all the thought and care you put in organizing the contents of the Ireland box.
Thanks for stopping by to review our box! Practically in something we took from customer feedback and have been working on. Thank you for noticing! It's overwhelmingly appreciated. And thank you for recommending our box. As a tiny company, word of mouth is our sole source of advertising so it means a lot to us. As a side note, we hope you've had a chance to dig into the nonfiction book for Ireland. It's one of our all-time favorites.
this box! I am overjoyed! A great book and fantastic, FANTASTIC extras. A 100% wool scarf! I'm totally in love. WOW!
We'll pass on your love of the scarf to our Irish artisan supplier. Thank you for the review!
Wow! This box is like an awesome mini vacation! I can't wait to read the books!
Update: I liked both of the books. I wanted to be surprised by something different than what I would normally choose, and it was great to expand my reading comfort zone. I also learned a lot about a country that I really knew nothing about!
Hello! Thank you for your order and for reviewing us! Please do let us know how you like the books.

Every now and then here at Bibliophilic Excursions, we select a special edition location. This year, NASA reached a milestone when two Americans, tasked with replacing a power controller, ventured out of the International Space Station: the astronauts, Christina Koch and Jessica Meir, became the first to take part in an all-female spacewalk! In honor of this historic achievement, we’ve connected with other women-owned small businesses to curate a solar system excursion!
This month, we're headed to one of the literary favorites of the world- Iceland. Our literature selections include a novel from Nobel Prize-winning Halldor Laxness and a very special collection of myths dating back to the days when Iceland was settled by the Vikings. As always, we're also including handmade gifts from locals, and of course, chocolate!
This is a very special month! We've included a fiction book from Egypt's only Nobel Prize in Literature winner and a nonfiction selection about Egypt's woman of service. We've also included handmade items like a beautiful handblown glass perfume bottle modeled after the bottles made for the Queens of Ancient Egypt, a lucky scarab beetle, a hand-painted papyrus art piece, dukka spice, and more uniquely special curated items. Enjoy the journey!
