Q: I subscribed to this service in October. Is there anyway to see when a shipment was sent out? It does not appear to be reflected on Cratejoy in my subscription information. Asked by Linda M., November 2020
Q: Is there a way to do a bulk order? Say 22 boxes? Thanks, LaraAsked by Lara L., November 2020
Hello! Thank you so much for your interest in our product! We love bulk orders. We can curate a custom box for your group, design a holiday special or we can arrange a bulk order for one of our monthly boxes. We are happy to pass down our wholesale savings to our customers. I will follow-up via email!
Q: Does anyone know what the theme for May 2020 or June 2020 will be ? Tried looking everywhere and had no luck. Asked by Rosanna C., May 2020
The May 2020 box is Germany.
I asked the company about this and they told me that they deliberately keep it a secret since that is what the members prefer. However, I was looking to send one box to a friend as a gift and they told me which two countries the books that month were from and gave me a choice of them.
Q: Hello, Is the Bibliophilic Excursions crate appropriate for a 13 year old girl?Asked by Shariese B., May 2019
It probably would be if they were reliable. I received two boxes that were very nice but they never shipped the third box, which they billed me for, and they were getting ready to bill me for the fourth box. I tried contacting them three times with no response. Cratejoy refunded the one month I was charged for. The concept is really cool, but I’d stay away from them if I were you.
Not if you actually want them to receive the gift! my first shipment came and then none of the others I paid for. I contacted the seller numerous times and finally had to contact cratejoy refunded my full order because even they could not get a response from the seller. you would do better to find a different box that will actually deliver and respond to issues.
Yes, it is appropriate and also a great idea! I subscribe to it and I have given both individual boxes as well as subscriptions as gifts. My 13 year old son does the unboxing with me because he likes the concept and product. The theme of the box and the extras make them quite enjoyable. Some of our unboxing videos are online, but we don’t always post. I hope this is helpful!
I got my first box of the Fiction Journey, and I love it. The theme is Australia, and all of the items are really cool. I especially like the boomerang! The book looks interesting, and I'm looking forward to reading it.
I received the Iceland box as my first one - and it's fantastic! This box showed thoughtful, excellent curation. I've been introduced to a Nobel Prize-winning fiction writer (Halldor Laxness) whom I didn't know before and also enjoyed my non-fiction selection about Icelandic folk tales. The beauty item was a moss salt scrub - very nice and effective. I was thrilled with the jewelry - a rune necklace and a key chain with a troll figure made from lava stone. Also, a lovely book mark with lava stone and a metal Thor figurine. To wrap it all up, interesting and tasty small batch chocolates from Omnom. I do feel the shipping was high, but the overall box was great and I'm looking forward to the next one.
Updated Review: I was initially confused about receiving an older box, but the seller cleared this up with a response! I’ll enjoy reading Maya Angelou & the new author included in this box. The handmade trinkets and journal are thoughtful additions. Thank you ☺️
Hello Ashley! We’re so sorry you were disappointed to receive one of our most popular boxes. We offer something very special for a subscription box service- we guarantee shipment within 5 business days. We can do this by keeping a few of our older boxes on hand. After the first box, we catch our customers up with the new box of the month. We do keep a record of our customers with each box they receive and their individual preferences. As you noticed, we choose quality contents and add thoughtful details like a hand-written thank you note and details about our suppliers. Our selections are never random but part of our thoughtful selection process. We do have a customer or two who have preferred to...
I loved my Ladies Who Lunch Box so much. The items were lovely and on-theme and I am already enjoying the book. It made me feel joyful an special, in a time in which it was really needed. I wish I could get this box every week, instead of every month.
Always a delight to receive. Each month has wonderful and unique items that capture some of the essence of the culture/country explored each month. The books are always an excellent curation of non-fiction and fiction. I look forward to the box each month!
Wow! This box is like an awesome mini vacation! I can't wait to read the books!
Hello! Thank you for your order and for reviewing us! Please do let us know how you like the books.
So creative. When you open the box, it feels like you are stepping into a different culture.
Thank you so much for reviewing, Taylor! That’s our goal. The in-country artisans make it possible.
I haven't read the book or used the cocktail items yet (due to being in the middle of a book and on a diet at the moment), however, this was the cutest subscription box yet. Not only was there a lot of care put into the box and items, but there was a hand written thank you note for purchasing the box!!! It's so rare to get something like that these days. The book and cocktail set were all in theme, and just happened to be lavender which is especially relaxing to me. Only one wish, that they added some recipe cards for proposed cocktail with measurements. I know I can look it up and the bottle had something short on it, but I think it would have gone a long way to get a recipe card for something that I can just make on the spot.
I absolutely LOVED this box when I first got it--the theme was Ghana and it was so adorable, I loved all of the products and appreciated that there was a NOTE explaining what each product was and where it came from. I also enjoyed the note that talked a bit about Ghanian history and the non-fiction book selection was superb! I was very much looking forward to the next box, Egypt. Unfortunately, this one was kind of a miss for me. Mostly because, unlike, the first box, this one didnt come with a note explaining what some of the products were. Therefore, I was kind of at a loss with what some of the products were, or even how they were supposed to relate to Egypt, and they were a bit kitschy. I did not yet get a chance to read the non-fiction book, but hopefully the story will make up for it. Otherwise, I am looking forward to the next box and am hoping it will match the quality of the beautiful box from Ghana!
Hi there MJ! Thanks for the review! We've been making some upgrades for our customers around here at Bibliophilic Excursions. As Californians impacted by the historic wildfires, we are also trying to use less paper and find more sustainable packaging materials. One of our new features is a customer-only webpage that not only explains the books and items included but will begin serving as our customer community. You can find a great recipe for your duqqa, read the story behind each item included, learn about our featured way to give back, and, soon, you'll be able to engage with other customers. To access the website, scan the QR code found on the postcard enclosed in your box. If you prefer a letter, let us know....
This was my first month trying out this box. I thought it was well-curated and I received Ghana. I was actually supposed to go to Kenya for my birthday in April, but it was cancelled, so I got to travel to Africa vicariously. The books I received were Homegoing and Everyone Needs Traveling Shoes. I enjoyed Homegoing more than the Maya Angelou one. I liked how it went in depth with colonialism and systemic racism through generations of a family tree. Both books did transport me in to Ghana. The hand cream was moisturizing with a strong rose scent. The journal I received was lovely. The musical instrument, I used as an ornament along with the red and white ornaments. It was cool that the items went with the theme. I’m looking forward to receiving the next box with a new country.
Hello April! Thank you for leaving this review! We're so glad to have you on this journey with us!
I wanted to mention that Yaa Gyasi, the author of Homegoing, has a new book out entitled Transcendent Kingdom. It's a fantastic read if you're interested.
Thank you again!

Denmark is known for extraordinarily happy citizens so we’ve chosen two books we think will bring a little Danish delight to your life! Our fiction selection is Often I am Happy and our non-fiction selection is The Little Book of Hygge. Customers also received items influence by the concept of Hygee including a tea towel with a design of Kronborg Castle; a cheeseboard; a nightlight; a collage featuring a famous Dane; black licorice; and a cozy pair of socks.
Every now and then here at Bibliophilic Excursions, we select a special edition location. This year, NASA reached a milestone when two Americans, tasked with replacing a power controller, ventured out of the International Space Station: the astronauts, Christina Koch and Jessica Meir, became the first to take part in an all-female spacewalk! In honor of this historic achievement, we’ve connected with other women-owned small businesses to curate a solar system excursion!
This month, we're headed to one of the literary favorites of the world- Iceland. Our literature selections include a novel from Nobel Prize-winning Halldor Laxness and a very special collection of myths dating back to the days when Iceland was settled by the Vikings. As always, we're also including handmade gifts from locals, and of course, chocolate!
This is a very special month! We've included a fiction book from Egypt's only Nobel Prize in Literature winner and a nonfiction selection about Egypt's woman of service. We've also included handmade items like a beautiful handblown glass perfume bottle modeled after the bottles made for the Queens of Ancient Egypt, a lucky scarab beetle, a hand-painted papyrus art piece, dukka spice, and more uniquely special curated items. Enjoy the journey!
