Q: The description reads "some Internet access required via smartphone or tablet". Can it be accessed through a laptop? Also, is this something that one person can do on their own?Asked by Laura W., November 2019
As some other people have answered, there are QR codes that must be scanned. Once scanned they have you download a file or sometimes redirect to YouTube. Recently they had us send an email to a specific address that provided some answers and more clues.
And yes this is totally doable on your own.
Yes, there are websites that allow you to use your webcam and scan QR codes. This is how we do boxes.
We like to use an iPad (tablet). You can even use a phone (or two).
There are QR code’s that need to be scanned to follow a link. It wouldn’t work with a laptop I don’t believe. You could solve it as one person if you wanted to.
This is definitely something one person can do on their own. A laptop could be used as long as it has a camera and the ability to scan and read QR codes.
Q: Does each mystery box build on the last, or are there new mysteries every time?Asked by Michelle J., April 2019
Each box is it's own self-contained mystery, requiring no knowledge of prior boxes. However, there are some very minor references and easter eggs that are fun for people who have done multiple boxes (and they are so minor that you miss nothing if you don't even get them). Again, no knowledge of prior boxes is needed. Each stands alone. That was a big concern for me, too, when I was deciding on what box to subscribe to, so I understand...
Each of our boxes are stand-alone mysteries. They all take place within the same universe so you will see characters or locations appear in multiple boxes. But they are not written where you have to solve one box before solving another.
No, each month is different.
Each box is a brand-new mystery.
Q: Do you ship to Canada?Asked by Jennifer S., October 2021
Hi Jennifer
Thanks for your question.
We do not ship our subscriptions to Canada at this time. However, we do ship our one time boxes to Canada. You can find our one time boxes on our website under the "one time purchases" tab.
Q: Can you reused boxes? If my husband and I get one, can we pass it to our friends afterwards?Asked by Rebecca B., January 2021
Hi Rebecca. Thank you for your question. Our boxes can be replayed as many times as you would like. I would advise not marking on any of the evidence so those who play after you get the full experience. We even have a contents page on our website that you can check to be sure everything is in the box before and after playing.
Yes. Just make sure you supply copies of crossword, search word, or those you might have to solve.
Fun, challenging, and always perfect!
.Challenging, stimulating, Fun with the Family!
Thank you for the review, Melissa! We are thrilled that you are enjoying our mysteries.
My daughter and I received a monthly subscription as a Christmas gift: we have been enjoying them immensely. They can be a little tricky, but all the clues are there, if you pay close enough attention. And, we appreciate that if we do get stuck (because we overlooked something), the hints are just that - they don't give away the secrets, they mostly tell you where to look for them. It generally takes us a good 3 to 4 hours to complete a box (multiple layers to each mystery), which gives us quality time together with little or no frustration. LOL
Thank you for the recommendation, Micky! We are thrilled to know that you and your daughter have been enjoying the mysteries so much. They are great for creating quality time together with friends and family!
I am in love with this company! I have enjoyed their boxes for months but recently had some financial hardship and needed to cancel my subscription but forgot. I emailed the company directly and they were willing to work with me and even gave me a refund. As soon as things resolve on my end I will 100% renew my subscription.
Thank you for the awesome review, BB! Customer service is a top priority of ours and we are glad to help in any way that we are able. We look forward to solving mysteries with you again soon!

Love these products. Have tried a few different brands / companies and deadbolt is my favorite so far. Puzzles are clever and challenging but not too confusing / unspecific, and as a paper nerd and graphic designer I appreciate the quality and variety of the materials. Very fun and renewing my gift subscription soon!
