I received my first book today. I didn’t know what to expect. But based on the reviews here I certainly did not expect to pay for an old library book with yellow pages. That wasn’t worth the money at all. For $1 dollar I could have bought this at the library booksale. Quite disappointed. Customer service wasn’t helpful either.

This box is just not for me I didn’t really like any of the books that were there so I will not be getting another box from them or from you
Item was damaged upon delivery (i.e. I received the packaging, but no package). Immediately emailed, no response. Sent message on Cratejoy, was told I would get my package. This was back in November. I have not received anything even after sending multiple messages. Horrible customer service. Maybe if I actually got the subscription o maybe even my money back, I would be happier.
We are terribly sorry you had this experience. Of course this started off as a post office issue, then we failed to replace the damaged package. Despite our best efforts, sometimes perfection can elude us. I have refunded your original purchase, but will still send your replacement books to you. So I picked the horror/thriller option and got 2 dinosaur books. Neither are horror or thriller. I get that they can only send what they have but don’t advertise you have something you don’t! I paid for thriller/horror and got action dinosaur novels. I will not re subscribe or recommend this to anyone interested in the same genre as me
Glad I did month to month. One of the books I received was a puppy training book. Completely useless to me. There were some very old books in here as well. And they were all awful.

I ordered this for my grandmother who loves to read romance suspense books. She said the books have been horrible and they are the same books you can buy at the Dollar store. I am cancelling now.
I don’t know what happened to this subscription, it used to be good. My first couple boxes were full of good books but sadly now all they send me is odd, non-fiction and self help. When I get the email to review my latest box I state to NOT send me either of those genres and what happens...that’s all the sent me, yup my last box doesn’t have one single fiction book. My last few shipments have went straight to the donation pile, not a single book I wanted to read. :(.
I like the idea of this box but they did not execute it. I never received the genres I signed up for, even after e-mailing them and specifically asking them to stop sending me memoirs every month. Each month for 6 straight month (stupidly I prepaid); I got a box of 4 memoirs, bio/autobiographies--- I would never read. A lot of Nazi Germany memoirs, several D List Celebs (20 yr old memoir by Joan Rivers anyone?), memoir of a house carpenter who lost his job during the recession.
The most interesting book I, the one and only non-memoir was a dirty, yellow-stained, ripped copy of a book on the history of Bra's and the woman who wear them, including illustrations. I can almost bet you that a MAN runs this box, due to the books I received. The curation is sadly just no there. Disappointing.
I really wanted to like this book subscription. I like the idea of it but I just got my first box and Im not at all thrilled. One of the books was so off name that there arent even reviews of it online. There was nothing about it that peaked my interest and Ill likely donate it. The second book was in poor condition. Both seem like books I could have gotten from a used book store in the $1 bin. One maybe even dollar tree ☹️. Shipping was also very slow, it took forever for it to even ship. Im really underwhelmed by these selections and if I wasnt so disappointed I would try it one more month. I guess Ill keep looking for a good book subscription. I feel like I threw away $$. ☹️

My account states I am on the 3rd of 6 months with Used Books Monthly yet I have never received a package. After not receiving my first package I assumed there was a mail issue so I reached out and got the following response
We were not aware of your box’s dead ma status. Unfortunately, it sounds like the post office may have lost in transit. In the rare event of this happening , we find it best just to replace the box. We will get a replacement out to you ASAP. Thank you for subscribing!
Sounded great! Yet here it is 20 days later and I am now not only missing the first package but the replacement package and the second package (hoping the third is on it's way!).
Maybe this is just my luck since the rest of the reviews look great, but I am not in a rural area where mail gets lost. I just want to read a book and not think that I blew $60 on nothing.
EDIT: I have been in contact with this seller multiple times and sent him not only my home but work address multiple times and never received ANY of my boxes. Somehow my 4 other cratejoy subscriptions show up without fail every month. At this point I am waiting to see if I actually get a refund or if that goes as missing as my boxes.
Katie, we are sorry you have had this experience. So far we have sent your March box, a replacement box for that shipment, and your April box. There is obviously some issue with your address.
