Q: does anyone know if it's Scribbler is still shipping despite C19?Asked by Omar F., April 2020
Hi there, Scribbler! We shipped out March boxes and are offering a digital April box on our shop as a separate purchase (not part of the subscription). We plan to be back to shipping physical boxes in May. Thanks!
Q: I am interested in writing scifi, horror, like Stephen king and twilight zone. Would this be a good box for me to subscribe to?Asked by Pam K., July 2020
Hi Scribbler! Thanks for your question! We cover a wide range of writing topics in our boxes, but most themes can be applied to any genre. Themes like, "How to Write a Great Hook," or "Perfecting Your Ending," or "Creating Memorable Characters." Our goal is to keep you motivated, improve your writing, and educate you on your publishing options so you can churn out that next Stephen King style book. Keep writing, Scribbler!
It’s not specific to a genre, but to the skills of becoming a better writer. This month’s box contained two books in genres I would never have personally picked up. With the author’s comments in the passport that accompanies one of the books, I have learnt so much from a source I would have dismissed because it’s not the genre I write. My writing is better, because Scribbler makes me look outside my comfort zone.
I never received any updates or email notifications on the status on my box. I placed an order on March 29, I am about to be charged again on April 28 and have not received a box. I emailed customer service and was told that the had my record as showing a purchase on April 16 with a renewal on May 28. That is not correct. Also- how would they have my record? I never provided any kind of number? I have attached the pictures of my receipts. Bummer. Was looking forward to this box but I don't want to deal with this customer service again. Couldn't help but note a snippy tone towards the end as well.
I would give this box a 10/10. I loved the variety of things I received. It was my first box and I got a candle that I am in love with and can't wait to order a larger size of it. I got two books and a bunch of tips to write a book, how to get published and fun things that I can participate in.
Each month, MY Scribbler box arrives, but I have to wait until my 18 year old son is home from school until WE open it. He is an avid writer too, and we always find items in the boxes that interest both me the seasoned dabbler, and him the novice novelist. There has been so much good advice, and gorgeous goodies in these boxes, that we really look forward to them, and frequently referred back to the passports and advice from authors. The variety of books included, has made me read outside my comfort zone, and really helped me look at how authors craft their works.
By far my favorite subscription box! As soon as I get one I start anticipating the next one. I love the little books and all the other notions. Can’t get better, in my book!
So many cool writer/bookish things! My favorite thing is the monthly edition of little writing passports.
I adore this subscription! As a writer, I’ve enjoyed the exercises and the thoughtful curation of books! The first box was slow to ship, but exceeded my expectations once it arrived. My second box just arrived and it didn’t disappoint.
I love that there is a box for writers.
I love my Scribbler box - just really bummed out that April didn't happen. :(
I especially love when the books included are signed by the author (or at least there's a bookplate that is), but I noticed the March one came with 2 books and no autographs.
I like the novelty of the writer-themed pieces and the occasional treats are wonderful. Overall the box is a nice surprise that I really look forward to every month.
I've been subscribed since the debut box and I've never once considered canceling it. First off, I love that this is a box for WRITERS. Yes, there is a book in each box, but there is related material like a Writing Passport with advice on a different topic each month, along with peeks behind the scenes (real examples of a line editor's notes, for example). There have been some AMAZING box contents, including several journals, tasty treats, pins, tote bags, decals for laptops, writing prompt books, even a Story of my Life that encourages you to really WRITE it, not just fill in blanks.
There have been a few hiccups...they made a change to the shipping process which proved to be EXTREMELY unpopular with the subscribers, V&L heard the feedback and changed it back (probably taking a financial hit to themselves by doing so). If something is missing from your box, which has happened to me a couple of times, customer service is VERY responsive and makes sure the item is in your next box. And yes, sometimes there were big misses with the content...one was a three-pack of plain highlighters I could have found at the dollar store. The monthly chats are great, but they can be a bit rushed (especially if there are tech problems), and they're at a time that's very difficult for those of us who still have to also work a day job. There is a replay,...
I did enjoy this book. I found the information helpful. I liked reading a book I had not heard of and getting more than only the book. What I was not as pleased with is that most the books I knew nothing at all about which is okay to discover but many were not genre's i would typically read. I like that they had an author chat but i always had to work so was not there to participate. The information was good but sparse. The book goodies tended to be small and things i could easily attain. I just feel for what you get it is kind of expensive for me. That being said only to make the box better because all in all I do REALLY like this box just is expensive for me for what your getting.
