- +SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESS: The Book Drop is powered and run by Bethany Beach Books, a woman-owned and women-led bookstore. The Book Drop headquarters and shop opened in November 2020 so we are now able to be physically part of two communities.
- +ENVIRONMENTALLY-CONSCIOUS: The Book Drop does their best to be as environmentally-conscious as possible. At the start of 2019, we switched from boxes to recycled padded envelopes to cut back on waste. We also use materials that are made from recycled paper products. We live at the beach so we try to do our best for the planet whenever possible!
- +HIDDEN GEM, FABULOUS READS: The Book Drop focuses on hidden gem books. What is a hidden gem? We consider a hidden gem to be an exceptionally amazing book that readers might not find unless they are in an independent bookstore or are immersed in the book industry. We know anyone can purchase books from that-site-that-shall-not-be-named or read books from a bestsellers list so we focus on fantastic books that readers might not know about yet.
- +GIFT SUBSCRIPTIONS: The Book Drop makes for a fabulous gift! Whether you're shopping for the holidays, a graduation or celebration, a baby shower, etc. The Book Drop is a great idea! Our books come hand-wrapped in tissue paper every month, making our subscription feel very gifty already. We also provide a hand-written gift note to the recipient in their first package. Gift Givers can select subscriptions for an assortment of ages and for an assortment of lengths.

In an effort to promote gender fluidity among books, we consider all of our book subscriptions to be gender neutral.
Q: What will be the best option to choose for my 13yo son? The middle grade option or the Young Adult?Asked by Veronica G., May 2019
We always leave this up to the parent's discretion. Our Middle Grade subscription is best for readers who read at a Lexile range of 650-890. Our Young Adult subscription is recommended for readers with a maturity level of 13+. Some of our Young Adult books may contain mature content, please take a peek at our Past Books page on our website to see what we have sent in previous mailings.
I’d look at the books he’s recently read to get an idea of which level he’s at since all teenagers are different. If you can’t get that information, I would suggest that you start with middle grade books and if he feels that they’re too easy or that the themes are too childish, you can switch to young adult.

Very few book clubs offer “middle school” as a genre. I’m 50+ and enjoy mostly fantasy & YA but sometimes older audience versions are a bit more heavy/ serious/ intense than I’m looking for.
I like my 1st book (it’s a fantasy with Chinese zodiac themed superpowers), will probably buy the next in the series, like the packaging (recyclable, and a present wrapped attractively somehow delights more), and I really appreciate the surprise factor (I’m 5 mos into what’ll likely be a +/- 12mo coronavirus quarantine so the same-ness of life, inc books I’d pick myself, has been wearying).

My boys have been loving their books. I got them a young adult and elementary package and the books have been diverse with great themes so far. I love that we may not have picked them out ourselves but getting them in the mail is so special (with beautiful presentation) and we have trusted in the curation. So far all have been great and I know my boys may have been surprised at how much they liked some of the stories. It has been a great way to introduce them to new genres. To be honest the books that the book drop has sent me the last few months are often ones that I would’ve passed by and never thought to read (I lowkey still judge books by their cover and then by the blurbs, I know it’s so immature but I can’t help it!)
