Q: If you buy a 3 month subscription, does it automatically renew for another 3 months, or is it only a one-off payment that you don't have to explicitly cancel?Asked by Jean M., November 2020
Great question! The default option for a 3 month month subscription is that it will automatically renew after three months. You can absolutely sign up for a 3 month subscription that ends after the 3 months (without having to explicitly cancel) by selecting the "Give as Gift" option on the Intoxicated Intellectual page, selecting a 3 month subscription, and then unchecking the green slider that says "Your Gift will Automatically Renew." This will create a subscription that ends after the 3 months selected.
We hope this helps, and if there is anything else that we can answer, please feel free to reach out!
Q: I want to get a gift as a Christmas present. Can I specify which month to start delivery when I order, or should I order after 15 December to start delivery in January?Asked by Jean M., November 2020
Thank you for your question! We would suggest subscribing at any time before January 15th if you would like for your gift to be delivered in January, and then sending us a message to let us know that you would like the gift to be in the January shipment. If there is anything else that we can help you with, please feel free to reach out to us!
Q: Is there a shaker in every box? Most people I would buy this for already have several!Asked by Jean M., October 2020
Hi! Great question! We include a new and different bar tool for subscribers in each box, and we also keep track of the bar tools that subscribers have already received to make sure that there are no repeats. While we did feature shakers as the bar tool in some of our early boxes, recent boxes have included specialty glasses, measuring tools, peeling tools and ice molds.
Q: Is it possible to give a gift certificate for a specific dollar amount or number of months (without a subscription)?Asked by Jamie G., May 2020
Thank you for your question! We do offer gift cards on our Intoxicated Intellectual website. (Under the "shop" tag of our website.) Gift card amounts are good for one month, two month, three month, six month, and year-long subscriptions.
I have been an Intoxicated Intelectual subscriber prior to it's debut on Cratejoy (during the Beta Launch) and have been satisfied with every box I have received.
My July shipment included the stylish box pictured in this review. Each ingredient compliments the book, and is enough to make multiple drinks. You really could not ask for a more reasonable price for how much is included, and I am constantly surprised by how much they pack into the boxes.
The thoughtful presentation, quality ingredients, and overall value of the box make this a subscription I look forward to every month.
I've been an Intoxicated Intellectual subscriber since the launch, and am so satisfied with the boxes I have received so far! The recipes are creative, and I love reading the extra info that comes in each kit. It has also been a good mix of older and more modern classic books, which I appreciate. Their customer service is also fantastic. Overall, I highly recommend this box!
Can’t believe I didn’t write this review yet. Crazy year eh? Got this for my boyfriend and he loved it. Book was “Of Mice and Men” (which happened to be one of his faves) and the cocktail was the Jack Rose, John Steinbeck’s tipple. We are still enjoyinf the cocktails :) Shocked at the value - sentimental and intrinsic - packed into this box. Will get another for us! If you like books and/or cocktail making, this fits the bill!
I liked this box a lot! The book was not one of my favorites but hubby and I loved the cocktail and are looking forward to next month!
I love this box! I have been blown away by the quality ingredients and delicious craft cocktails, and the ways that the drinks tie in with the book. I have been trying for a while to read more classic lit, and this makes the whole experience so much more fun.
I knew when I ordered it that there is no alcohol in the boxes, and they sent out an email before I received the box to let me know that the box featured gin, and even gave recommendations for types that would work best for the recipe (The Sherlock Holmes Earl Grey Martini last month).
Regarding the price, it's less than you would spend in a bar for the same number of drinks (not even counting the books and bar tools that are also in the box), but this allows you to learn about the cocktails and enjoy the books wherever you want, without having to find the unusual ingredients which you would have to purchase at a higher cost. To top it off, the whole package is really nicely presented, and overall it feels like a unique experience.
The curation was thoughtful, and the shipping timely. However, the name of the subscription is a bit misleading. It gives the impression that alcohol is included in the box. It is not. Only the other ingredients used in the cocktail are included. Totaling up the average prices for the items included in the box, there is not a lot of value for money. I would suggest lowering the price of the box by about $15 and including a bold disclaimer that alcohol is not included.
Thank you highlighting our thoughtful curation and fast shipping in your review! We also appreciate the feedback that we should make it more clear that there are no alcoholic products in our boxes. (This is mostly due to laws against shipping alcohol to certain states.) We will work to be more clear about this feature of our box for future subscribers.
We would also love for you to reach out to us is there was anything missing from your box. We strive to give each of our boxes a retail value over $50 (+discounted shipping), and hope that you will let us know if we forgot to put any items in the box that you received. Our July box included a 750ml bottle of Monin honey...
Our August box featured a classic detective in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Study in Scarlet," paired with a delicious and intriguing Earl Grey Martini cocktail.
Our September Box features Franz Kafka's masterpiece, "The Metamorphosis," paired with a surreal and perplexing espresso cocktail.
Our November box features George Orwell's classic novel "1984," paired with a delightfully dystopian Smoked Rosemary Victory Gin.
