Each of our mystery boxes contains a link to the online solution where you can check the results of your investigation!
Q: How do I change the address for a subscription that I received as a gift? O just moved and need to update my address before the next box comes. Asked by Morgan O., June 2021
It never arrived and the automated responses were rude and unhelpful. Don’t buy this it’s a scam.
My experience with this game was awful. We could not find the ID number for the website and we looked EVERYWHERE. We couldn’t solve the game without this information. We had already spent a couple of hours on the game until we had to completely stop because we couldn’t find the ID number, which I would love to know where it was.
My daughter and I are extremely disappointed. This game is going in the garbage along with the other 6 that we ordered and haven’t opened. We don’t even want to start another game because we don’t want to have to stop again for lack of information.
This was just an awful frustrating experience.
Hi Megan! No ID number is required to solve the mystery, so we're just not sure where you went off track. All of the online materials were accessible without entering any ID number and none of the online elements asked for an ID number. We do know of another company that uses ID numbers to access online information, so we're wondering if perhaps you confused us with another company?
My "Tomb of the Pharoahs" box was just a collection of papers to read + one phone number to call. No ciphers, just one "call this number for a message" type clue that had me visit a certain URL. Kept me busy for exactly so long as to read everything. Once I read all the materials, there was nothing else to do, I had eliminated all the suspects but one. Some of the things mentioned in the newspaper did seem interesting, though, and I like the idea of a continuous story.
The box was pretty short and very ... direct... as these things go. Their other mysteries might be more in-depth. I immediately canceled after this box because I didn't think the value was great.
Shipping was pretty fast, though, and the box showed up in good condition.
I can just echo EVERYTHING said in the fellow one-star reviews. I had a long, well-thought-out essay written on ALL of my issues with this company about 6 months or so ago, but looks like the company reset its reviews again!
Customer service is terrible. They are rude, unprofessional and patronizing.
I’m only here because my friend just asked me if I had heard of the company because she was interested in subscribing... YEP I had! Glad to see they’re still up to their old antics.
Now to countdown the time until they respond rudely, perhaps accuse me of being racist as they did to another reviewer, or make up another lie. Good luck continuing to silence people and cause fear of the smallest dissent in your Facebook group.
There are MANY other options. Don’t waste your time or money.
I got this box and completed the mystery. It had a lot of potential, but some of the puzzle solutions were VERY illogical and unsatisfying. I voiced my concerns on a Facebook post of theirs, and the comment was promptly deleted and I was in fact blocked from commenting on the page ever again.
Their defense was that they asked "what did you ENJOY about the box?" and my comment was constructive criticism rather than sheer praise, and so I "didn't answer the question," which violated their (non-existent) guidelines. I think that's pretty absurd, but you can decide for yourself.
I also find their billing practices shady - their boxes ship out on the 21st, and you probably won't get them till the 27th or 28th. They charge for the next month on the 30th, so in all likelihood you'll be charged for the next month before you can even finish the first. Perhaps their business model is people like me, whom they can squeeze two boxes out of before they have a chance to react.
Your experience may vary. If the box was great, I would have let the weird customer service slide, and vice versa. Unfortunately not the case on either end.
I love puzzles, figuring people out and their motivations, and reading between the lines. I stopped going to movies long ago because I could always figure out the plot and what was going on etc., so it became boring for me.
Then I ran across Mystery Experiences Company and OMG, I've had to start using my brain again! No longer is it something where I can glance at it and go "oh so-n-so did it and here's why", now I have to actually dig and think and research, and rethink things and sometimes, I hate to admit, I cannot figure it out (ok so then I cheat and see what the solution is).
I love this. I am keeping my brain active, thinking things thru, not just taking at face value, looking at deeper meanings, for connections, obscure seemingly throw-away articles in the paper.
I just have to say Thank You for making this such an enjoyable experience. I love it so much and am so glad I stumbled across your website last year. I now lurk on the various FB pages and read people comments and find myself nodding in agreement with them or even going OMG I never thought of that!
Keep up the great work, I am so looking forward to next month's mystery.
My family and I look forward to the latest mystery from the Mystery Experiences Company each month. My wife and I play with our teenage children. It is a great way to spend quality time together. Some puzzles are more difficult than others but you can receive help through the Facebook community. The mysteries are well worth the money!
I have been a member for two years and love this box. If you love puzzles and have always wanted to be a detective this is the box for you. I can not recommend it highly enough. You won’t be disappointed.
I've been solving these mysteries for over a year now, and it's the best money spent in my budget. I get some friends together for a potluck dinner and solve the newest mystery. There's also a bigger mystery that connects each monthly story, which is fun to watch unfold. The FB group is amazingly supportive, and point you in the right direction if you're stuck. Sometimes our group solves the mystery easily, and we've been dead wrong a couple of times, but either way we have so much fun. Puzzles, codes, red herrings, rumors, odd clues....I love this company and anxiously await my shipment each month!
I was introduced to this subscription box in the Fall of 2016...I took my first steps into Forrest City and I don't ever plan to leave!
First, what this is not...It is not an RPG, a true-crime series, a horror mystery, science fiction stories, or a puzzle box...yet it is also all of the above!
These monthly mysteries take place in the mysterious, vaguely placed, Forrest City. This is a city that has seen inhabitants and mysterious since the original French fur trappers arrived in the 1600s and has only gotten stranger, more beautiful, and more deadly!
Each month you, as a resident of this city, receives a mysterious box as different forces in the city attempt to use you to solve crimes, uncover mysteries, and solve puzzles.
Each month is a self-contained story that is solvable with the contents of the box, and any websites, phone-numbers, or emails that you discover.
There are also over-arching mysteries (the meta-mystery) that delve into the history of the city and its denizens that really bring it to life. This is the part the brings me most into the game, as each month unlocks more knowledge, more ideas, and more speculation for me to add to my notebooks, murder-boards, and database!
You should be able to solve a box in anywhere from 1-4 hours in a small group, or 3-5 hours by yourself (depending on how quickly you use the internet to solve ciphers and puzzles versus decoding them...
