Unfortunately, no. Uncle Doug doesn't look down on DVDs. In fact, some fine movies are only available on DVD. He just doesn't have a working DVD player and sold his collection a while ago.
But, there are a bunch of VHS tapes! Have you considered getting a VCR? They're pretty cheap on FB Marketplace!
