Hi Eric, I'd start him on the 9 to 10 yr old box then adjust the age range depending on how challenging he finds it.

I wish you could tailor the book selections to your kids more. Most of the books we got we had to give away because my kids weren't interested in them or they were too old for the books selected for them. I was really disappointed and upset for my children.
