Ultimately, this box wasn't for me or for the person I gifted it to, as is reflected in my ratings. I'm sure it is perfect for some, but my friend likes certain genres and strongly dislikes others. I had purchased a 3 month subscription thinking it'd be a fun way for her to explore new books within the selected genres given that she has mobility and transportation issues after an accident. I loved the concept of someone picking books and not knowing what you're getting, but I liked that it had the parameters of staying within your selected genres. An excellent product in concept and if properly executed, this crate could be great!
Unfortunately, 2 out of 3 total months my genre selections were not used due to a "glitch" in their system to collect preferences, even after I had manually emailed them in after receiving the first box. Most of the books my friend received were not within the selected genres. She hasn't received her third box yet (in the mail), so hopefully those genres are incorporated this time.

I have received 3 shipments, 6 books in total. Of those six, only one has fit either of the two categories I selected—Sara Douglass The Devil’s Diadem. This book, by a renowned fantasy author, fits perfectly into the Fantasy category. The latest book sent for the fantasy category is sci-fi, but not fantasy.
None of the books sent to me would ever be found on the mystery shelves of a library; they are mainstream fiction, perhaps suspense or thriller, but not mystery novels.
Having spent many hours in libraries over the last several decades, I expected the curation of books in the categories offered to match the standard understood definitions of book genres. This has not been the case and I am paying for and receiving books that clearly do not fit the genres requested. Unless this changes I will definitely be cancelling the subscription and recommending that the service be avoided by any one who asks for my feedback.
