The Best Black-Owned Subscription Boxes from Self-Care to Kids' Crafts
Updated by Jaime Netzer
You’ve likely heard the call-to-action over the last few years: Support Black Businesses. But what does that mean exactly? According to some reports , studies show that 77% of wealth is created by owning a business. While Black people make up almost 15% of the American population, in 2019, only 2.3% of businesses were black-owned. In contrast to many business owners, Black businesses face myriad barriers to long-term success, such as higher interest rates, predatory lending practices, and less investment capital.
While there are many ways to support the fight for racial equity and social justice, an immediate way to challenge these norms is to support Black-owned businesses, both locally and online. And by purchasing a Black-owned subscription box, you’ll receive goodies at your door while continuing to bolster minority-owned businesses month after month.
But, one of the most important lessons to remember is that the work of antiracism is just that — continued work. One never "arrives" as an antiracist, and one should continually work to keep racial equity and social justice at the forefront of their life — daily.
