I picked "classic" and it ended up being some weird science fiction type book that she would never normally read. Would be nice if there was a way to have a little more say in what book was sent. Really lovely box! The activity books are much better than I was expecting. At LEAST $10 each. The book itself, I have not read yet. It is a part of a series but not 100% canonical to the others. Also, seems like a detective story, which is disappointing considering I wanted horror, but we shall see. Overall, I'm pleased with the amount and quality for what I paid. Thank you! Most of the books are written by men, but when I mentioned the skewed ratio, my very next shipment included a new-to-me female author. The coloring and activity books are much more varied than what I can find for myself. I can't always finish an activity book before the next one arrives (they usually send two!), but even that's great because I've got a nice selection of books to give as gifts. Often, little extras are included, like lollipops or inspirational cards (nothing religious, only positivity). I'm very happy I treated myself to this box.

I am amazed how quickly the box shipped! The coloring/activity books are fun to do, and the horror novel is rather recent, which was a surprise to me! I originally planned on keeping the subscription, as I wanted more horror novels on my bookshelf. I am looking forward to seeing what's in store for me next month. The only issue is that when the colored pencils arrived, the box was damaged and had spilled. Thankfully, I did have tape handy, but it would have been great to have a sturdy box for the pencils.
