What Ollie costs and includes
Ollie cooks human-grade dog food, portions it to your dog’s calorie needs, and ships it frozen on a schedule. You answer a short quiz about age, weight, and activity, and Ollie builds the plan. If you’re shopping for companies like Ollie, these are the parts to match.
- Recipes
- Five fresh recipes (beef, chicken, turkey, lamb, and pork) plus two baked recipes. You can mix fresh and baked in one plan.
- Price
- Full Fresh starts at $1.57 a meal. Half Fresh, a half portion you mix with other food, starts at $1. Ollie says full plans average about $8 a day, and small dogs start under $4.
- Delivery
- Frozen packs on the schedule you choose, to the continental US only. You’re charged three days before each box ships.
- Commitment
- Subscription only. Skip, reschedule, or cancel from your account on ollie.com or by phone.
- Extras
- Photo check-ins in the Ollie app for digestion, weight, teeth, and skin and coat.

The alternatives
Closest swap
The Farmer’s Dog vs Ollie
The Farmer’s Dog works the way Ollie does. It gently cooks human-grade recipes, freezes them in portioned packs, and sizes the plan from a quiz about your dog.
Best for: Someone happy with fresh food who wants a different company behind it.
What feels familiar
Pre-portioned packs, a plan built from your dog’s age, weight, and activity, and an account where you pause, rush, or delay a box.
What changes
The proteins are beef, chicken, turkey, and pork. Instant Fresh is a shelf-stable version you mix with water, meant for adult and senior dogs. If your dog won’t eat it, The Farmer’s Dog offers other recipes or a refund when you donate the food to a shelter.
Try it before you subscribe
Nom Nom vs Ollie
Nom Nom cooks each meat and vegetable separately before mixing them, so you can pick out the pieces in the bowl.
Best for: A picky dog who needs to taste a few recipes before you commit.
What feels familiar
A quiz, portioned frozen packs, and recipes from board-certified veterinary nutritionists. Lamb is on the menu, as it is at Ollie.
What changes
There are six recipes, and you can rotate them between deliveries at no extra cost. You can also buy a Variety Pack at Chewy or Amazon, or single packs at PetSmart, with no subscription. Nom Nom refunds the first order if you ask within 30 days.
Pantry food instead of freezer packs
Spot & Tango vs Ollie
Spot & Tango sells frozen Fresh meals and UnKibble, a dry food made from human-grade ingredients cooked and dried at low heat.
Best for: Someone who liked Ollie’s baked recipes, or who has no freezer room.
What feels familiar
Food portioned to your dog from a quiz, and a plan you can pause or cancel from your account.
What changes
UnKibble sits in the pantry, and an open bag keeps for about eight weeks. You can’t pick both UnKibble and Fresh for one dog online, but support builds a mixed plan on request. The first order comes with a 14-day money-back trial.
No subscription at all
JustFoodForDogs vs Ollie
JustFoodForDogs sells fresh frozen meals by the box, so you can order once and stop.
Best for: Someone who wants fresh food without another auto-renewing plan.
What feels familiar
Cooked whole-food recipes, frozen in 18 oz packs, with daily diets for puppies through seniors.
What changes
You pick the recipe and box size yourself instead of getting a portioned plan. Subscribe & Save is optional, with deliveries every 1 to 12 weeks and 5% off repeat orders. You can also find it at Petco, Chewy, Amazon, and the brand’s own kitchens.
Treats with a short ingredient list
Organic Dog Treat Subscription Box vs Ollie
Best for: A dog on fresh food whose treats haven’t caught up.
PAWsitively Organic Dog Bakery bakes three or four kinds of treats for each box in its New Jersey kitchen, such as pumpkin muffins, peanut butter donuts, and decorated cookies.
What feels familiar
Human-grade ingredients and no corn, soy, artificial preservatives, or fillers, close to the promise on Ollie’s own recipes.
What changes
These are treats, not meals, so they sit next to Ollie or any fresh plan. Boxes are baked after billing and ship around the 15th of the month.
Chews and toys for a tough chewer
PupJoy Power Chewers Box vs Ollie
Best for: A strong chewer who finishes dinner fast and wants something to work on.
PupJoy sends treats and sturdier toys, sized from Tea Cup to Huuuge, and tailors each box to the dog on your profile. It’s also a pick in our BarkBox alternatives, if toys matter more than treats.
What feels familiar
A box built around your dog’s size, on a monthly schedule.
What changes
It holds toys and chews, not food. Boxes ship within one business day, and shipping is free in the US and $5 to Canada.
The honest part
When Ollie is still the better fit
Keep Ollie if your dog does well on its lamb recipe, since The Farmer’s Dog doesn’t make one. Ollie also bends to a budget without leaving fresh food behind: Half Fresh starts at $1 a meal, and one plan can mix fresh and baked recipes, which Spot & Tango won’t set up online. Stay, too, if you lean on the app’s photo check-ins, where you send a picture of your dog’s stool, teeth, or body shape and Ollie’s health team sends back feedback.
How we chose these
We started with what an Ollie plan does: cook complete meals, portion them to one dog, and deliver them on a schedule. Cratejoy doesn’t carry a fresh dog food plan right now, so the four meal picks are brands sold on their own sites and, for two of them, in stores. The two Cratejoy boxes cover treats and chews. The photo at the top is Ollie’s own product image.
Questions before switching
What is the closest alternative to Ollie?
The Farmer’s Dog. It also sells fresh, human-grade food portioned from a quiz and shipped frozen on a schedule. The main difference is the recipes: The Farmer’s Dog has no lamb.
Can I buy fresh dog food without a subscription?
Yes. JustFoodForDogs sells boxes of frozen meals as one-time orders, and Nom Nom sells packs at Chewy, Amazon, and PetSmart. Ollie, The Farmer’s Dog, and Spot & Tango sell by subscription.
Does Cratejoy sell fresh dog food?
Not right now. The Cratejoy picks here are a monthly organic treat box from PAWsitively Organic Dog Bakery and PupJoy’s Power Chewers Box of treats and toys. Both work alongside any meal plan. JustFoodForDogs suggests keeping treats to no more than 10% of a dog’s daily calories.
Do these ship to Alaska or Hawaii?
The fresh-food brands here don’t. Ollie, The Farmer’s Dog, Nom Nom, and Spot & Tango ship to the lower 48 states, and JustFoodForDogs excludes Alaska and Hawaii.
How do I cancel Ollie?
Sign in on ollie.com, open My Info, then Subscriptions, and cancel each dog’s plan. You can’t cancel in the app, but you can call Ollie instead. Orders already in progress still ship.
