What ScentBox costs and includes

ScentBox is a monthly fragrance subscription started by two brothers in Southern California. You choose a designer perfume or cologne from its catalog, and it arrives decanted into an 8 ml atomizer, about a month of daily wear. The comparison below uses the Standard plan.

Contents
One 8 ml (0.27 oz) atomizer a month, about 125 sprays, with a new case each month. ScentBox rebottles the fragrances itself.
Price and plans
$17.95 a month on Standard, which draws on more than 600 fragrances. Premium ($22.95) and Platinum ($32.95) open the pricier shelves, and any tier can go up to two or three scents a month.
How you choose
A fragrance calendar you can fill up to 12 months ahead. Skip a month’s pick and you get that month’s featured scent.
Delivery
Ships on the 7th, 14th, 21st, or 28th, free in the US. It also ships to Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, and the UK.
Canceling and exchanges
Cancel by email or phone before your charge date. US members get one free exchange a month, up to five a year.

The alternatives

A curated surprise

Wicked Good Perfume Scent Club Box vs ScentBox

Shop Now

Best for: Someone who’s tired of choosing and would rather open a perfume picked for them, with a few scented extras around it.

Wicked Good Perfume is a woman-owned fragrance studio that has sold on Cratejoy for six years. Each Scent Club Box is built around a theme (recent ones were “Avant Garden” and “Do Not Disturb”) and sends a new perfume from the studio’s own line, which it describes as clean, plus two or three other scented goods. It holds a 4.6-star rating from 166 reviews.

What feels familiar

A new perfume every month, with free shipping.

What changes

You don’t pick the perfume, and every scent comes from Wicked Good’s own line rather than designer houses. Month to month it costs about twice ScentBox’s Standard plan.

Closest match to ScentBox

Scentbird vs ScentBox

Best for: A member who likes picking every month’s scent and wants a bigger catalog.

Scentbird works the same way: you queue designer scents, and each month one arrives in an 8 ml vial meant to last about 30 days. Its catalog runs past 1,100 scents, including brand collaborations and a shelf picked by Neiman Marcus, and a quiz gets you started.

What feels familiar

The same vial size, the same $17.95 starting price, a free case with the first box, and free US shipping.

What changes

Scentbird has no plan tiers. Some scents carry their own surcharge instead, from $5 to $20. It ships only to the US, Canada, and the UK, and ending the subscription goes through its customer team.

Niche perfume houses

Olfactif vs ScentBox

Best for: A member who has worked through the department-store names and wants to try smaller perfume houses.

Olfactif picks three niche fragrances each month and sends them in 2 ml spray vials, good for 15 to 20 wearings each. Choose the Women’s or Men’s collection, or the $40 Deluxe for all six of the month’s scents. Members get 20% off full bottles of the featured scents.

What feels familiar

Spray vials every month, free US shipping, and pausing or canceling from your account.

What changes

Three small samples replace one month-long supply, and Olfactif chooses them. It suits finding a scent to buy more than wearing one all month. Cancel by the 15th, or one more collection ships.

A slightly bigger vial

LUXSB vs ScentBox

Best for: Someone who wants to keep choosing, with a little more fragrance each month and room for niche names.

LUXSB, short for Luxury Scent Box, sends one fragrance a month in a 9 ml glass vial, one milliliter more than ScentBox’s atomizer. Its catalog mixes designer, niche, and some exclusive brands, and you plan ahead on a fragrance calendar. A new protective case ships every quarter.

What feels familiar

Scents you choose, a calendar, month-to-month billing, and free shipping, starting a dollar lower at $16.95.

What changes

Premium and Ultra-Premium fragrances cost extra only in the months you receive them, so the price moves scent by scent rather than by tier. Boxes ship 5 to 10 business days after you’re billed.

Perfume oil instead of spray

Wicked Good Perfume Rollerball vs ScentBox

Shop Now

Best for: Someone who would rather roll on a perfume oil than spray one.

Wicked Good’s smaller club sends one perfume oil rollerball a month from the same studio, which describes its scents as handcrafted, vegan, and cruelty-free. A 12-month plan brings the price down to about $15 a box.

What feels familiar

A small, bag-sized bottle of something new every month.

What changes

It’s an oil, not a spray, and the seller picks the scent. Month to month it costs $21.99, about $4 more than ScentBox’s Standard plan.

The honest part

When ScentBox is still the better fit

Keep ScentBox if you use the free exchanges. It’s the only subscription here that advertises one, and US members can swap a scent they don’t like once a month. Keep it, too, if you live in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, or Singapore, where Scentbird and Olfactif don’t ship. And if you like knowing the price before you pick, ScentBox’s three flat tiers are easier to plan around than the scent-by-scent surcharges at Scentbird and LUXSB.

How we chose these subscriptions

We started from what ScentBox sends and why a member might want something different, then went through every perfume and cologne listing on Cratejoy and kept the ones with a working buy button that answer one of those reasons. Two made the cut, both from Wicked Good Perfume. We added Scentbird, LUXSB, and Olfactif because no Cratejoy box sends a decant of a designer fragrance you choose. The photo at the top is ScentBox’s own image of its keepsake box and atomizers.

Questions before switching

Which alternative is closest to ScentBox?

Scentbird. It sends the same 8 ml vial at the same $17.95 starting price, and you choose each month’s scent from more than 1,100. Some scents cost extra, and it ships only to the US, Canada, and the UK.

Is ScentBox the same as a scent box for your home?

No. ScentBox sends perfume and cologne to wear. For home fragrance, Magic Fragrance Box on Cratejoy sends a candle, a room spray, a wax melt, and an air freshener in one scent each month, and the candle subscription boxes collection has more.

Is there a cologne subscription like ScentBox?

Scentbird and LUXSB both carry men’s fragrances you can pick yourself, as ScentBox does. Olfactif’s Men’s collection sends three traditionally masculine and unisex niche scents a month.

Which one costs the least?

LUXSB has the lowest monthly price for a scent you choose, $16.95. On a 12-month plan, the Wicked Good Perfume Rollerball comes to about $15 a box, but the seller picks the scent.

Can I give one of these as a gift?

Yes. Both Cratejoy boxes can be sent as a gift from the listing page. ScentBox sells 3-, 6-, and 12-month gift subscriptions starting at $54.95, and Olfactif and Scentbird sell gift subscriptions too.
