What YumeTwins costs and includes
YumeTwins packs a themed box of Japanese kawaii goods in Tokyo every month: plushies, stationery, pouches, homegoods, and character merch from Sanrio, Studio Ghibli, Sailor Moon, and Pokémon. Some items are YumeTwins Originals designed by its Tokyo team, and some are collabs made only for the box. ICHIGO, the company behind it, also runs the TokyoTreat and Sakuraco snack boxes.

The alternatives
Closest match to YumeTwins
Kawaii Box vs YumeTwins
Best for: The YumeTwins subscriber who wants a fuller box from Tokyo without paying more once shipping is counted.
Kawaii Box packs 8 to 10 Japan-exclusive kawaii items in Tokyo each month. Expect Sanrio and San-X characters, Studio Ghibli goods, originals from its own Tokyo designers, and Kawaii Box x Sanrio collabs made only for the box.
What feels familiar
A monthly theme packed in Tokyo, with plushies, stationery, and homegoods in the mix and a Sanrio collab you can’t buy elsewhere.
What changes
You get more items for about the same money. A monthly box runs about $55 delivered to the US, duty included, so nothing is due at the door. Prepaid plans can’t be canceled or refunded once the first box ships.
Shipping included from Japan
Kawaii Mystery Box From Japan vs YumeTwins
Best for: A kawaii fan who wants the box to come from Japan and the price on the page to include shipping.
Hinachan’s Japan Mystery Box Shop buys plushies, stationery, stickers, memo pads, accessories, and home decor from kawaii shops around Japan and packs them into the size you choose, from 2 to 4 items up to 15 to 20.
What feels familiar
A surprise of cute Japanese goods, packed in Japan and mailed to you every month.
What changes
A fuller box costs more. The 5-to-7-item size, the YumeTwins count, is $69.95 a month, and express shipping is part of that price. The items are store finds from around Japan rather than collabs made for the box.
One character world
tokidoki Mystery Toy Box vs YumeTwins
Best for: The collector who opens YumeTwins hoping for the character goods and could skip the pencil cases.
Mystery Toy Box by Mindzai sends 5 to 8 officially licensed tokidoki items a month. tokidoki, the Japanese word for “sometimes,” is the character brand built on Italian artist Simone Legno’s designs since 2005. Past boxes have held Unicorno blind boxes, Mermicorno plush, and tokidoki x Hello Kitty and Friends figures.
What feels familiar
Blind-box surprises and plush from a character brand built on its founder’s love of Japan.
What changes
Every item comes from one brand, and the box ships from inside the US, so US subscribers pay no import duty. Prepaying doesn’t lower the price.
A plush every month
Little Rubi Plush and More vs YumeTwins
Best for: A parent whose tween or teen reaches for the plushie first.
Little Rubi sends one medium plush a month plus two or three small surprises, such as blind box figures, squishies, stickers, pens, mini bags, or hair accessories. An optional question at checkout lets you share the recipient’s name, age, and favorite character.
What feels familiar
A plush in every box and a few cute extras to dig for underneath.
What changes
The goods are cute rather than Japan-exclusive, and the box ships from the US. It has the lowest box price of the subscriptions here, and a 12-month plan brings it to about $30.
The honest part
When YumeTwins is still the better fit
Stay with YumeTwins if the exclusives are the point. It sells its YumeTwins Originals and its Sanrio and Cardcaptor Sakura collabs only in its own box, and each month comes with a culture guide on what’s trending in kawaii. If you’re partway through a prepaid plan, finish it before you move: YumeTwins payments aren’t refundable, and prepaid boxes can’t be skipped mid-plan.
How we chose these boxes
We started from the reasons YumeTwins subscribers look elsewhere: the delivered price after September’s shipping and duty increase, wanting more items per box, a favorite character brand, and a plush every month. Then we checked every kawaii, plush, and Japanese goods box on Cratejoy and kept the ones taking orders. Kawaii Box joined the list as the closest match sold direct. The photo at the top is YumeTwins’ own product image of its October 2026 Kawaii Monster Mash box.
Questions before switching
Which box is closest to YumeTwins?
Kawaii Box. Like YumeTwins, it packs a monthly box of Japan-exclusive kawaii goods in Tokyo, with Sanrio collabs and plushies. It holds 8 to 10 items against 5 to 7 and costs about the same once shipping and US duty are added.
Why did YumeTwins get more expensive in the US?
On September 16, 2026, YumeTwins raised US shipping from $12.50 to $14.50 a box and began charging import duty as a percentage of the box price, which comes to $5.25 on the monthly plan. US subscribers on prepaid plans bought before that date were billed a one-time charge in late September covering the difference on their remaining boxes.
Is YumeTwins the same company as TokyoTreat?
Yes. ICHIGO Inc. runs YumeTwins alongside the TokyoTreat and Sakuraco snack boxes, and all three share one help center. If you want Japanese snacks instead of kawaii goods, TokyoTreat is the sister box to look at.
Can I buy just one box?
YumeTwins and Kawaii Box sell subscriptions only, and both suggest subscribing monthly and canceling after the first box. YumeTwins also sells gift plans that don’t renew, and every Cratejoy box on this list can be sent as a gift from its listing page.
Which of these boxes suits a tween or teen?
Little Rubi’s Plush and More is built for tweens and teens. Its optional checkout question about name, age, and favorite character gives the seller what they need to match the plush to the kid.
