I wish I could say that with the holidays over my stress is gone, but it’s far from the truth. Like most people, I have a lot on my plate. What especially sucks about being overwhelmed is that I don’t make enough time for myself , which is what I need the most. When I heard about calmbox, I couldn’t have subscribed fast enough. Here’s what I found:

Item #1: Teddy bear, from Fuzzy Friends

I have to admit that I wasn't expecting a teddy bear, but once I picked it up, its incredibly soft texture and shiny golden fur was relaxing to touch. I wouldn't have chosen an item like this for myself when it comes to personal care, but it really is cathartic.

Item #2: Caffeine-free Herbal Tea Blend, from Flying Bird Botanicals

When I think of me-time, tea is always on the top of the list. The problem is that the tea I have around the house is usually green or black, which is highly caffeinated. I almost never drink tea at night, so I was delighted to try something deliciously relaxing while cozied up in bed. In fact, after I had a cup of this flavor packed tea, I was knocked out within minutes, sending me into a restful night of sleep.

Item #3: Organic Fruity Bears, by Surf Sweets

I looove the generic store bought gummy bears, but their high sugar content never does me any favors. I was delighted to find that this package of gummies are organic and vegan, not to mention dairy, soy, and gluten free! It's a guilt-free snack, which is exactly what I need.

Item #4: Lavender Bath Salts, from Pura Products

Never underestimate a good bath - I live for it! And even still, I don't indulge in them enough. I was so relieved to find this package in the box, because I always tell myself that I should use bath salts, but I can never justify the trip to the store. Immediately I tried them out, accompanied with some candles and music, and it was everything.

Item #5: Pop-Open Cards, by Compendium

I opened up this cute little yellow box where inside it read: "Feel Good / Pass it On." A deck of miniature cards, each one has something different, something positive written on it, like: Delight in the Moment. Under that, there are blank fields so you can fill in whatever you like, to remind you that there are reasons to smile. How beautiful. The box also encourages you to share a card with someone, and I thought that that's such a good idea. I wrote a compliment on one and handed it to a neighbor, and her face lit up with a genuine smile. That moment was so touching.

Verdict:

Calmbox really is a much needed joy; a reminder to take care of myself. From the first moment I received the box, I was excited to know that everything in it was just for me. I'm really anticipating next month's box, and I'll also order a subscription for my mom, too.
