Witchy Décor Must-Haves To Display Year-Round

Updated by Frankie Larson

When new people come into my house each October, they often say, “Oh, I love your Halloween decorations!” It makes me laugh because my house is always decorated like that—year-round. I’m a big believer in decorating your home in relation to your practice, and these are a few of my witchy décor staples that also serve a purpose no matter the time of year.

**Door Décor **

Creating a sacred space is key to a witchy home. Many witches name their homes and greet them upon entry and exit as the home is believed to be its own entity. The home is a source of protection for all those living there, and it’s important to thank it for its work. Homes that are neglected often develop negative energy. Create a home as a ward by placing bells or jingly charms on the front and back doors. I also love to put dried herbs on each door and change the herbs out with each season depending on the needs of the time. It’s also important to keep a broom by the door and use it to sweep out stagnant energy at the beginning of every month.

**Altars **

Altars are lovely places to create sacred space in the home. I have many in my house and they all serve different purposes. Some common things to put on your altar include candles, oils, incense, a small cauldron for burning herbs and incense, and crystals. If you practice Tarot, it’s also great to make an altar exclusively for that purpose and intent. It’s important to be intentional with altars, and I recommend thinking about including all four elements in each—fire, water, air, and earth—as well as the four Minor Arcana if it’s a Tarot altar: wands, cups, swords, and pentacles . Be sure to be respectful by refreshing and cleaning your altars regularly with intention (an altar broom helps!) so the energy doesn’t stagnate.

**Books **

Every good witch has a library of important information! In addition to your own grimoire , keeping books on herbalism, Tarot, crystals, and other items from your practice is important. You never know when you’re going to need to reference something or double-check a meaning! Not all information and sources are for all practices and people, so it’s important to find books and authors that speak to you and your intuition.

**A Well-Stocked Pantry **

A witch’s house wouldn’t be complete without a stocked pantry full of a million glass bottles and jars , half of which are filled with dried herbs and oils for their practice. I keep every cool glass jar I find, and I know I’m not alone in this habit! Herb bundles drying above every window is a staple in a witchy home as well. Not only do they smell and look great, you can use them in your practice later on. I also use a wooden laundry drying rack to hang bundles of organic matter: it’s amazing how much you can dry in a small space!

**Wall Décor **

Most of the art in my house also serves alternate witchy purposes. I have a poster of tea steeping times, and every year I get a new moon calendar. Calendars with planting times and growing tips are helpful as well, especially for green witch practices . I decorate with a lot of dried flowers and grasses, too, and they give a huge witchy vibe to my space.

**Curio Cabinet **

Last but certainly not least: a curio cabinet. Witches often find themselves with a collection of trinkets and important curiosities that they gather over time. Items like crystals, stones, flowers, bones, nests, coins, and keys often call to you and ask you to take them home. Shelves or cabinets with lots of small compartments are also a great way to create an aesthetic display and store these trinkets safely.

When you combine all these witchy décor must-haves, you’ll find yourself in a practical, lovely home full of protection and joy: a sacred space unique to you and your practice.
