Did you know that the Mint Julep was first used as a medicinal concoction to settle the stomach? Yes, our beloved Mint Julep got its start to help heal what ailed us and then blossomed into the beautiful Cocktail it was truly meant to be. Around the late 1700’s, it became very popular in the Southern United States with the elite because not everyone had access to ice or the pewter in which the Cocktail was served.
It wasn’t until 1938 that the Mint Julep became the official drink of the Kentucky Derby. Nearly 120,000 Mint Juleps have been sold at the race every year since.
Our Julep & Smash Kit is based on classic recipes using the finest Bourbon. The second recipe gives a nod to the Julep “cousin” known as the Smash.
