Q: If I order the non-fiction and the fiction box for myself will the extra items be different?Asked by Dana B., October 2020
Hey Dana! For the most part, the items are the same. I would recommend selecting one or the other and then taking advantage of our options to switch genres. You can switch from fiction, to nonfiction, to our BlackLIT Believers Box at anytime. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions.
Q: Is it okay if I’m a white ally who buys this box? Is that okay?Asked by Adelaide S., September 2020
Hey Adelaide,
Absolutely! One of the reasons why started I BlackLIT was to highlight Black authors and entrepreneurs. These individuals are incredibly talented and would appreciate the opportunity to reach audiences beyond their own race. In addition, my prayer is that BlackLIT helps close the racial divide by increasing representation and awareness. We welcome you with open arms!
Q: If I paid for two months subscriptions before I received the first months box will I get two boxes in one month? I started my subscription after the shipping date one month and was charged again.Asked by Kenya T., August 2020
Hey Kenya,
In the past, our renewals were set up to be one month in advance. As a new, small business this gave us enough time to order the right amount of inventory. Since then, we have grown and have adjusted our systems so that everyone receives a BlackLIT Box within 7 days of signing up. After getting some feedback from our subscribers, we found this works best.
Thank you so much for supporting BlackLIT! Please let me know if you have any more questions!
Q: Do you have a box that caters to boys? Asked by Jarrette W., August 2020
Hi Jarrette!
At this time, our only box that is exclusively catered towards males is the BlackLIT Men Box. We also offer BlackLIT Kids for ages 0-7, but that box is meant to be gender-neutral.
We do have plans to expand though, so please stay in touch. You may find what you are looking for real soon! Please let me know if you have any more questions.
I have subscribed to this box for a year and a half but I feel I must warn others. The boxes when they come are great but they come sporadically. I have now paid for two boxes through auto renewal and have not received no box. I have emailed them and they finally answered that they were working on it. Just lies. . I skipped my subscription when I noticed they were going to charge me again. I’m like you have taken my money and no product. I have requested a refund but none. I found this book box from Oprah’s best book box list. It’s a great concept but this box seems very unorganized, under staffed and unreliable. I have five book box subscriptions and have never dealt with anything like this. Save your money!
I used to love this box and recommend it to everyone. Now it has become the biggest disappointment. The seller takes your money and does not send a box and there is no communication or refund.
I love whenever I get my BlackLit box! I do fiction option and so far, they’re books that weren’t on my radar. The other items are also great and I love discovering new Black-owned businesses. Highly recommend getting this box.
This is the second month I have been charged and no box shipped to me!!! I am super disappointed with this company now. The idea was fantastic and the whole reason I signed up, but 2 months now being charged, no product and no answers to emails, not impressed!! I can’t even sign into their site anymore!!
I would like newer books by black authors for this year in the box. There are some great for out there for 2022. Color purple is a good book but I already have it and have for years.
If you can actually get the boxes, the products are cool. However, I don’t know if I ever would have received any of them had I not contacted the seller MULTIPLE times asking for updates. It took two weeks for the first box to go out, the second box took a month and half, and I still haven’t had any updates about the third box, which should have gone out three weeks ago. The seller does not respond to emails, Cratejoy inquiries, or Instagram posts, which I resorted to when I couldn’t get any other answers. I’m all about supporting small businesses, but this one has terrible customer service.
Good box, but too many issues with shipping. It became frustrating and the seller does not respond.
The concept is AMAZING! I’m an off and on avid reader and I’m always looking for ways to change up routine. This company advocates for literacy and most importantly it promotes black authors. It’s extremely critical to show the younger generation the importance in reading and supporting our own, hence why I subscribed. Either I’m missing the emails or the concept of this particular subscription. I assumed if I renewed towards the beginning of the month by mid to late in that same month I would receive my box. In August, after a few emails the owner advised there wasn’t a box for that month, yet my account was charged and apparently that was for the September’s box. Evidently I was supposed to be notified via email and I never was. This made me skip October all together (which I regret because a crew sweatshirt was in that box 😑). Here we are in November, my subscription renewed on the 11th and today is the 30th. I guess I’m confused on how this really works. I’m use to paying for a subscription and receiving the item the same month. I can’t afford to pay in advance for items I may or may not get depending on the month. Great box, great concept but the consistency is lacking. However the skip option is easily available so I’ll stick with it.
Not only do you get a great book but you get a box full of amazing products from Black-owned businesses. My daughter and I both get this box, one of us fiction and the other non-fiction. Love it!
I understand with covid and postal issues, shipping has been and will continue to be an issue, however waiting to receive subscription boxes until almost time for next month’s billing is making me want to cancel my subscription. I’m also thinking with covid box items are starting to repeat. I have only been a subscriber for less than a year and already have received repeated items.
